Major lobbyist leaving role as D.C. contractor

One of the District’s most prolific political financiers told a D.C. Council committee on Tuesday that one of his companies — which has a significant city contract — is closing its doors.

“We’re going out of business,” David Wilmot, the president of group home operator Individual Development Inc., told the Washington City Paper.

Wilmot has long been one of the most influential lobbyists in District politics, but his company has regularly come under criticism by city regulators, paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and settlements.

Ahead of Wilmot’s testimony, the company’s executive director did not respond to a request for comment about reports that Wilmot was leaving IDI.
