Academy Award-winner Robert Redford warned new college graduates of a “chaotic” and “grim” world during his commencement speech Sunday at Colby College in Maine. But the actor said that this generation is likely the only one that can move the country past the “divisive” politics that have gotten the country to this dark point.
“You’re stepping into a world that’s, well, pretty rough. It’s pretty chaotic, pretty divisive,” Redford told the class of about 500 graduates, according to the New York Post.
“You’ve got climate change, you’ve got debt, you’ve got wars, you’ve got political paralysis. It’s kind of a grim story. But the story, I think, can be retold, and I really believe that you’re the ones to do it…If we are going to have any kind of future at all, it has to be retold.”
He said that “collaboration” and “compromise” have been missing in our political process and told the graduates that it would be up to them to make that change.
