Trump crows about positive economic outlook

President Trump touted the country’s economic successes Saturday after the Labor Department released a glowing jobs report.

“We are breaking all Jobs and Economic Records but, importantly, our Country has TREMENDOUS FUTURE POTENTIAL. We have just begun!” Trump wrote on Twitter, not listing which specific records were broken.

Unemployment in the U.S. remained at or below 4 percent for a fifth straight month, according to the Labor Department’s report published Friday.

Experts predict job growth will continue throughout 2018, partly propelled by tax cuts introduced by Republicans in 2017. Manufacturing sector employment, however, trended downwards, a possible signal of jitters in the industry given Trump’s rhetoric surrounding steel and aluminum tariffs.

Average hourly wages for private, non-farm employees also increased in August to $27.16.

The positive economic data comes less than 60 days before November’s 2018 midterm elections.

A majority of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, according to RealClearPolitics’ poll aggregator, compared to 42 percent who approve of his job performance more broadly.
