FAA to announce new drone rules

The Federal Aviation Administration is set to announce new regulations for drone users Monday.

According to multiple reports, the new regulations will include a requirement that drone users register their devises in an effort to help track those who defy safety rules.

A task force will also be formed to help implement the process.

Because drones are considered hobby aircraft, they are exempt from registration because they are supposed to operate at 400 feet and below. But the rules continue to be violated, and a record number of at least 650 drone sightings have been reported by pilots so far this year, which prompted the FAA to set new rules.

“We have the safest airspace in the world, and everyone who uses it must understand and observe our comprehensive set of rules and regulations,” FAA Administrator Michael Huerta said. Flying them and violating federal regulations is “illegal and can be dangerous,” he said, according to Fox News.
