Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin denied that senior White House adviser Steve Bannon has suggested the administration back a 40 percent tax rate for the wealthiest Americans.
In an interview Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Mnuchin said he had never heard Bannon make that proposal.
“I have never heard Steve mention that,” Mnuchin said. “It’s another example of a false leak that’s been reported.”

He said the administration currently supports a 35 percent tax rate for top earners that eliminates all reductions but the plan “hasn’t been finalized.”
The website Axios reported last week Bannon wants the top tax rate to “have a 4 in front of it.”
