CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin criticized Attorney General William Barr on Wednesday for talking “like Sean Hannity” and showing the Republican Party is becoming more like Fox News.
“This is a classic demonstration of the Fox News-ification of the Republican Party,” Toobin said on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Wednesday night. “That even an establishment figure like Bill Barr, someone who comes out of the George Herbert Walker Bush administration, talks like Sean Hannity.”
Toobin’s comments were a reaction to Barr’s testimony before a congress panel Wednesday during which he said he believed “spying did occur” on President Trump’s campaign in 2016.
The shocking statement stirred uproar among Democrats and members of the media, including one columnist for the Washington Post who demanded impeachment hearings begin against Barr.
During his evening program of Fox News, Hannity chastised the negative media portrayal of Barr and had on guests who defended and praised the attorney general.
Toobin has a history of being critical of Trump and his team. On Monday, he called Trump “the great reputation killer” and criticized recently departed Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen as “the woman who put children in cages.”
