Former national security adviser Susan Rice referred to Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham as a “piece of shit” during an interview on a popular left-wing podcast.
Rice appeared Tuesday on “Pod Save America,” a left-wing podcast hosted by alumni of the Obama administration. Host Tommy Vietor, a former Obama campaign and White House press aide, kicked off by calling Graham “a piece of shit.” Rice readily agreed: “He’s been a piece of shit. I said it. I said it, damn it. Finally. He’s a piece of shit.”
Vietor added: “He lying. Lying, lying, lying.” Rice and Vietor were appearing with Ben Rhodes, who was deputy national security adviser for strategic communications under Rice.
The two were discussing Graham’s actions in the aftermath of the 2012 attack on the United States Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, when terrorists killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
Rice served in the Obama administration as ambassador to the U.N. at the time of the attack. She succeeded Tom Donilon as national security adviser the next year.
Graham was a forceful critic of the then-Obama administration. Based on the findings of a GOP-led investigation into the Benghazi attack, Graham accused the administration of covering up the real reason for the attack and instead blaming an online video for inciting the violence.
Graham also said the administration failed to act and save the men trapped in the embassy during the attack when American forces had plenty of time to react.
