?Apprentice? star speaks out tonight

Donald Trump?s latest “Apprentice” star, Randal Pinkett, is not satisfied with the gains minorities have made in business, and he?s taking his message to McDaniel College tonight during the school?s diversity program.

“I am going to speak about how we have made a lot of progress towards an equitable society but we still have a lot of work to do. If we are lulled into thinking we have reached the goal, we are mistaken,” Pinkett said.

Pinkett impressed Trump and viewers of NBC?s “The Apprentice” with his drive and qualifications. He has earned five degrees from institutions including MIT and Oxford. As part of his doctoral dissertation, Pinkett provided every family of a low-income neighborhood in Roxbury, Mass., with new computers and Internet access.

“That project was a crossroads for me. It was the first time I was able to combine my engineering interests with my activity in the community,” he said.

Now Pinkett looks to inspire students of all backgrounds to learn from one another.

“Campuses are becoming more diverse and this is a chance for students to seize the opportunity to value and take advantage of diversity,” he said.

Zephia Bryant, director of multicultural services at McDaniel, said 14 percent of the college?s students are minorities. “I knew he would be a wonderful addition to this year?s program. All our efforts are to expose the whole community to issues related to diversity.”
