Lloyd-Valcheff end reign of Price-LeClere

Firing a better-ball, 7-under-par 65, Dave Lloyd and Don Valcheff (Evergreen) halted the four-year run of Jim Price and Dave LeClere in the Northern Virginia Senior Four-Ball, Monday at Fawn Lake.

Lloyd-Valcheff, the 2005 champions, finished a stroke better than Jim Neale and Dwight Holman (Evergreen) and two strokes clear of Price-LeClere in a field of 40 teams.

Lloyd (Lake of the Woods) made five birdies, including a chip-in on No. 11, and Valcheff (Evergreen) contributed two birdies and a clutch par on the 18th hole. Price and LeClere, playing in the same foursome, made the turn at 4-under, put couldn’t continue their torid pace on the back.

An eagle by Neale at the par-five 14th hole, put Neale-Holman at 6-under through 12 holes in the shotgun event. But that’s where they finished, a stroke back.

In the net competition, Eddie Wittig and Brian Maloney (Springfield) shot 68 (61), one stroke better than Lloyd-Valcheff (62).
