Fox News host Sean Hannity said “we’re very close now” to achieving justice in terms of alleged misconduct during the Trump-Russia investigation.
Multiple times during his show Wednesday, Hannity informed his audience that newly disclosed FBI notes in the Michael Flynn case are only “the tip of the iceberg.”
He insisted to one of his guests, Sen. Lindsey Graham, that there is a “revealing” combination of information he claims to have received from insider sources, comments by Attorney General William Barr, and reported moves by U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is conducting a review of the Russia investigation.
“I’m told we’re very close now,” he said after noting he is asked by many people when “justice” will be served against the “deep state.”
“A lot of moving parts here,” he added, “and I think it’s very revealing some of the things the attorney general has said. I’m paying attention. And some of the movements of the prosecutor Durham in terms of hiring more staff.”
Hannity did not disclose the identity of his sources, but it comes after the Daily Beast reported he and President Trump spoke on the phone, reportedly about going after the New York Times. Hannity, who has threatened to sue the newspaper over opinion pieces that attacked his coverage of the coronavirus, denied they spoke about his lawyer and a letter his lawyer sent to the New York Times demanding an apology and retractions.
Hannity is known to be a Trump whisperer and has often had the president on as a guest on his show, which attracts 4.4 million viewers a night on average.
There are growing calls among Flynn defenders urging Trump to pardon his former national security adviser, who pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to federal investigators about his conversations with a Russian diplomat. After changing his legal representation, Flynn has since declared his innocence and moved to dismiss the case, which is a spinoff from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Trump said last month he was seriously considering a pardon for his former national security adviser. The president fueled speculation about an impending pardon when he retweeted a post from this weekend that said Flynn will be “exonerated this week.” He also retweeted a tweet from Flynn on Wednesday showing an American flag flapping in the wind.
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig said on the Dan Abrams Show on Tuesday that he believes the Justice Department is setting the stage for Trump to pardon Flynn after Barr ordered a review of Flynn’s prosecution, led by U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Jeffrey Jensen.
Dubbed a “witch hunt” by Trump and his allies, Mueller’s team did not find a criminal conspiracy between the Trump team and Russia but did lay out possible instances of obstruction of justice that were seized on by Democrats last spring. Democrats have also criticized what is now Durham’s criminal investigation as a politically motivated scheme to undermine the work of Mueller and attack Trump’s perceived enemies.
