George W. Bush sent a maximum contribution to the reelection fund for Sen. Susan Collins.
Bush, 73, donated $5,600 to the Maine Republican’s joint fundraising committee in October, according to FEC filings. The former president made the donation in October to help Collins gear up for her reelection race in 2020.
When anyone makes a significant donation to a candidate in the United States, the person must disclose the contribution by including a name, address, and occupation. Bush caught the attention of many by listing his occupation as “Former President of The United States.” Several people highlighted Bush’s decision to list “Former President” as his profession online.

Collins, 67, faces one of the most contentious reelection bids in the nation as she seeks to keep her seat for a fifth term. She recently surpassed Mitch McConnell as the least popular Republican in the Senate. The Cook Political Report listed her seat as a “toss-up,” along with Republican Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado and Martha McSally of Arizona. Only one Democratic senator’s seat was listed as a “toss-up”: Alabama Sen. Doug Jones.
