Nearly three out of every four Republicans believe Donald Trump will secure the GOP presidential nomination, according to a new poll released Friday.
Since mid-December, the percentage of likely Republican voters who think the billionaire is likely to be their party’s nominee has grown from 66 percent to 74 percent — the highest percentage to date in Rasmussen Report’s weekly tracker.
Thirty-one percent of voters say a Trump nomination is “very likely,” while only 11 percent believe it is “not at all likely.” Among all voters, 61 percent said the current GOP front-runner is likely to win the nomination, and nearly a quarter indicated it’s “very likely.”
The latest Rasmussen Report survey comes just 24 days before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses kick off presidential voting. Despite leading the Republican field nationally, Trump has fallen to second place in Iowa behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. The celebrity candidate is also second behind Cruz in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings.
The survey of 1,000 likely U.S. voters was conducted from Jan. 6-7. Results include a margin of error plus or minus 3 percent.
