For kids to grow up big and strong, they have to wear their Superman pajamas.
But it also helps if they eat fruits and vegetables, and thanks to the P Street Whole Foods, the kids at a Northeast charter school are doing just that.
Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School is enjoying $7,862 from Whole Food’s Community Giving Day on Sept. 7, when 5 percent of the grocery store’s profits went to the school’s garden.
Stokes uses the garden to produce fruit and veggies that are served to its 320 elementary students.
“The funds raised will enable us to invest in our programs that teach students about the value of nutrition and healthy choices, and how to prepare food,” said Linda Moore, founder and executive director of the Stokes school.
