An Arizona man was injured after falling neck first onto a knife after being shocked with a Taser during an altercation with a Glendale police officer on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a fire around 6 p.m. They encountered a man with “odd behavior” at the scene, according to police spokesman Sgt. Randy Stewart.
Officers discerned that the man was connected to the burning house and told him, “You can’t go there. It’s not safe,” body camera footage of the incident showed.
Officers instructed the man to grab a water bottle and be on his way. The man responded by pouring the contents of a water bottle on the ground.
“Now maybe we can get out of their way so they can do their job,” the officer told the man.
The man put the water bottle in a mailbox before starting to walk away. After walking a few steps down the street next to the officer, the man pulled out a large knife.
“Let me have the knife. Put the knife down,” the officer is heard saying as he tried to seize it. The man walked away from the officer before holding the knife close to his neck.
The officer pointed his Taser at the man, telling him to drop the knife before shocking him. The man fell directly onto the knife, which appeared to plunge into his neck.
“The knife is in his neck,” the officer said.
