Boeing to follow through on $1 million commitment for Trump inaugural

Boeing still plans to give $1 million to help pay for President-elect Trump’s inaugural festivities, even after the fight Trump started this week over the rising costs of the new Air Force One fleet.

Trump said Tuesday Boeing Co. is “trying to do a little number” on American taxpayers with the new Air Force One fleet. But USA Today reported that Boeing is following through with its commitment to Trump, and will give the president-elect the same amount it gave to President Obama’s inauguration in 2013.

Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he would cancel the order for new Air Force Ones set to be unveiled in 2024 because the price is going to be too high. Trump estimated the cost to be about $4 billion, which was backed up by unnamed Air Force officials when research and development costs were figured into the equation.

Boeing released a statement later that day stating it has only been contracted to do $170 million worth of work on the planes at this point in the multi-year process. The Pentagon has publicly estimated its budget for the project to be about $1.65 billion.
