Essentially unknown before launching his presidential bid, Pete Buttigieg has captured not only the attention of the national press, but of celebrities. Buttigieg’s Federal Elections Commission filing for April through June reveals star-studded high-dollar donations.
The openly gay, 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and Afghanistan Navy Reserve veteran earned maximum $2,800 contributions from a number of stars, including Ellen Degeneres and her wife actress Portia de Rossi, Kevin Bacon, Michael J. Fox, Mandy Moore, and Larry David.
Other celebrities chipped in less than the maximum legal amount: Barbra Streisand gave $1,000, Zooey Deschanel (using the last name of her husband, Jacob Pechenik) donated $500, and Jennifer Aniston gave $250.
A Mercury News analysis found that Buttigieg raised more high-dollar money from California than any other presidential candidate, including California Sen. Kamala Harris, who raised less than half of Buttigieg’s second-quarter haul in total.
Buttigieg raised $24.8 million in the second quarter, more than any other candidate.
