Fairfax County police are looking for the intruder who abducted and robbed a Herndon family.

Police said a masked man entered a home on San Moritz Circle through an unlocked door at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. He implied that he was carrying a gun and ordered a woman and her two children — a teenager and a toddler — into a room, where he tied up the teen.

A family friend came to the home a short time later, and was assaulted when he didn’t immediately follow the man’s commands to get on the ground, police said. He suffered cuts that police said are not life-threatening.

The children’s father then arrived at the home and was also assaulted, police said.

Police said the suspect then made everyone get into the family’s car. He forced the father into the trunk and forced the friend to drive. He first made them go to an ATM and withdraw money, then to a secluded area of a business park near Innovation Drive, according to police.

All of the victims except the father were released from the car there. They flagged down a passerby, who called police, while the suspect fled. The father escaped from the trunk after he realized everyone had gone and found the officers who had responded to the scene, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He is lean and wore a dark hat, a dark and baggy sweat suit, black athletic shoes and black gloves.
