Vermont woman takes it upon herself to replace torn American flag flying outside of local post office

All summer long the news has been dominated by the Confederate flag, but there are still stories about the defense of the American flag that need to be told.

After complaints from the residents of a small town in Vermont over a tattered flag flying outside the local post office, one woman took matters into her own hands, replacing the flag herself with the American flag that was draped over her fathers coffin.

Residents of Huntington, Vermont, had voiced their complaints for months, one resident calling the shredded flag “a disgrace to the nation and the town of Huntington,” The Blaze reported.

“I mean, people have died for this flag. And you can’t even get anybody to replace it?” Huntington resident Lisa Haynes said to WPTZ-TV.

The chair of the towns board said there was nothing they could do because the post office sits on private property, but after pressure and complaints from the residents, WPTZ-TV sent a picture to post office executives in Boston, who responded by calling the flag “appalling” and saying they would replace the tattered flag “right away.”

Right away wasn’t soon enough for resident who wished to remain anonymous, who quietly took the flag that covered her father, a Korean War veteran’s coffin, and placed it on the post office flag pole.

There has been no official word yet on how long the woman’s family flag will remain flying outside of the Huntington Post Office, but it seems no one is complaining anymore after her patriotic act.
