Saints safety Marcus Maye arrested on charge of aggravated assault with firearm

A New Orleans Saints player has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Marcus Maye, the 29-year-old starting safety for the Saints, was arrested on Thursday after police investigated a Monday road rage incident in Metairie, Louisiana, according to a Facebook post from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement said Maye drove a black SUV before allegedly “pointing a firearm at another vehicle that was occupied by several juvenile females,” according to the post.

The Saints player was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on Thursday and released after he posted a bail bond of $30,000.

Maye’s arrest comes just 10 days before the NFL’s regular season begins. The Saints are set to play the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. for their first game of the season.

The starting safety has a three-year, $28.5 million contract with the Saints that began in March, NBC Sports reported. Prior to playing with the Saints, Maye spent five years with the New York Jets.
