A U.S. Coast Guard training flight picked up an emergency locator transmitter alert for the crash and reported it, the branch said in a tweet.

“The helicopter crew members landed and offered assistance and were able to hoist and transport an 11-year-old female and a male adult to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, MI,” according to the tweet.

The girl received chest compressions en route to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan, where the man was declared dead, the Coast Guard said.

The adult passengers have been identified as Kate Leese, Adam Kendall, Mike Perdue, the father of the 11-year-old, and an unnamed pilot, police said. Two dogs were also killed.
