Main Street is rising in Mount Airy. The business destroyed by this month?s three-alarm fire that caused $4 million in damage will reopen in a temporary business park in four to six weeks now that the county has funded the project?s $82,000.
“It?s beyond huge,” said Dalia Schulman, head of the Mount Airy Main Street Association. “The thing we?ve all been pushing for is to get the businesses back in business.”
Five pods similar to school portables will be put at a lot next to the train station on Main Street. All businesses except for the two restaurants involved in the fire will move there until the buildings can be restored, Mayor Frank Johnson said.
