At least three victims and one suspect are dead after a shooter opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California on Sunday.
Authorities said about a dozen others were injured in the shooting.
Those killed include six-year-old Stephen Romero, who was described by his family as a “kind, happy” and “loving boy.”
Police Chief Scot Smithee said the suspect entered the event by cutting through a fence. Officers engaged with the suspect, who had a rifle, and the suspect was shot and killed, Smithee said.
A search is underway for a possible second suspect, Smithee said.
Additional information about the suspects and a possible motive have not been released.
A hospital spokeswoman said at least five people were hospitalized because of the incident, according to the Associated Press.
Video posted on Twitter depicts people running away from the sounds of gunfire, and one person can be heard asking, “What’s going on? What’s going on?” The cameraperson, upon learning what is happening, likewise moves in the direction everyone is running.
“Who shoots up a garlic festival?” one person asks.
