Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said Tuesday that the company’s new deal with former president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama does not mean the company is making a shift to the Left.
“It’s not the Obama Network, it’s not the MSNBC shift,” Sarandos said at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills Tuesday, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “There’s no political slate to the programming.”
Sarandos clarified that the Obamas would be creating entertainment programming and would not be producing any news as part of the multiyear deal.
However, Sarandos said that “it’s hard to argue there’s not a left lean to the creative community” in general.
The Obamas announced last week a deal with Netflix that will let them produce different films and series for the video streaming service.
