Game of Thrones star tests positive for coronavirus after experiencing ‘mild symptoms’

An actor who starred in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones announced on social media that he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Kristofer Hivju, who starred as Tormund Giantsbane on the TV show, announced his diagnosis on Instagram Monday while noting his symptoms are mild.

“Greetings from Norway! Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus. My familiy and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health – I only have mild symptoms of a cold,” Hivju said, later advising others to adhere to recommendations from health officials.

Several other Hollywood stars, including actors Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, tested positive for COVID-19 and encouraged others to heed the advice of health officials.

COVID-19 cases have appeared on every continent except Antarctica. Nearly 181,000 people have tested positive for the virus around the world, killing over 7,000 people. In the United States, there are over 4,400 confirmed cases of the virus, which has killed approximately 78 people.

Additionally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted nearly 3,000 points on Monday, falling to 20,180 points overall. The number is at its lowest point since President Trump’s inauguration, when it was approximately at 19,732 points. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq composite both fell nearly 12% after the Federal Reserve slashed interest rates to nearly zero and purchased $700 billion in bonds.

Despite the market losses, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin estimated on Sunday that the economy will witness significant regrowth as long as the U.S. manages to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

“I expect we’ll have a big rebound later in the year,” Mnuchin said on Fox News on Sunday. “So, this isn’t like the financial crisis, as I’ve said. This will have an end to it as we confront the virus.”
