President Obama is crediting his administration for once again making the United States the “most respected country on Earth.”
“People don’t remember, when I came into office, the United States in world opinion ranked below China, barely above Russia,” Obama said Monday.
“And today, once again, the United States is the most respected country on Earth, and part of that I think is because of the work that we did to re-engage the world and say that we want to work with you as partners, with mutual interests and mutual respect,” he said.
The president’s remarks were delivered as he took questions from reporters during a meeting with 75 members from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Fellows Program. The president met with the group to discuss civics, the environments and global politics.
The United States came in at number 22, behind Brazil and Singapore, on the Reputation Institute’s 2014 ranking of the World’s Most Reputable Countries.
