NY Post semi-corrects report on ‘sad’ Obama

New York Post editors published a semi-correction Tuesday to a report that erroneously quoted President Obama while he shopped around a Washington, D.C., book store.

“Correction: This story was based on a pool report from President Obama’s bookstore visit,” reads the addendum to the story, which was first published Saturday. “Video of the event, released later, shows it’s more likely Obama is referring to the picture of himself on the cover of the book when he says ‘he’s just sad’ — and is not referring to author Chuck Todd.”

As first pointed out by the Washington Examiner, the Post’s original story claimed that Obama called Todd, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “sad.” Obama was actually noting that the cover on Todd’s latest book, which features a photo of the president appearing sulky, looked “sad.”

The Post story spurred a fit of snickers among political and media types on the internet, earning a link from the popular and influential Drudge Report.
