Police investigating death on Auto Train to Florida
Georgia police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman traveling by train from Northern Virginia to Florida.
Sixty-three-year-old Barbara Arteta of Florida was traveling on the Amtrak Auto Train with her husband when she disappeared. Her body was found Thursday near railroad tracks in Jesup, Ga.
Police on Monday said an autopsy concluded Arteta died from multiple injuries, including a broken neck.
Armored car guard shot
An armored truck guard was shot in an apparent armed robbery, D.C. police said.
It happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Malcolm X Avenue in Southeast Washington outside a Popeyes restaurant.
The guard was shot in the face and was taken to the hospital by his partner in critical condition. A police spokesman did not know whether any money was taken.
Suicide brings bomb scare
Bomb squad units detonated three pipe bombs found at a Gaithersburg apartment after police responded to a suicide.
The explosives were discovered after Montgomery County authorities checked on an apartment in the 400 block of Sunnybrook Terrace around midnight Sunday. The bombs were taken to the Montgomery County Agricultural Park, located at 11400 Muncaster Road, and were destroyed by a robot early Monday.
Shots fired investigated
Montgomery County police are still looking for the person who fired about 15 shots around a Germantown neighborhood.
Police said Monday that a man heard about 15 shots coming from the rear of his home on Aug. 31. Police found a bullet hole in a wall, three bullet holes in nearby residences and 12 casings on the street.
The incident occurred on the 13000 block of Country Ridge Drive.
