Sen. Elizabeth Warren tried and failed during the 2020 Democratic primary to displace Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as the choice of ultra-left-wing liberals.
The Massachusetts senator promised free college, a $34 trillion “Medicare for all” program, and few if any, limitations on abortion. She even endorsed calls to abolish the Electoral College and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
On Friday, however, Warren all but endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, whose entire selling point is that he is a supposed centrist. Sanders, with whom Warren aligns closely in terms of political ideology, is still running in the 2020 primary, in case you were wondering just how dedicated the Massachusetts lawmaker is to her alleged mission of promoting liberal policies and ideals.
Warren sat down Friday for an interview with SiriusXM hosts and former Hillary Clinton aides Jess McIntosh and Zerlina Maxwell. During their discussion, the senator offered effusive, over-the-top praise for Biden’s alleged decency and leadership qualities.
“A lot of us want you to have as big of a role as possible in whatever administration comes next and is required to clean up the [President Trump] mess,” said McIntosh. “Do you see a role in the Cabinet? I’m sure you hear the vice-presidential chatter.”
Warren responded, “I think we’ve got someone like Joe Biden in there, we’re going to have good, strong people.”
The senator continued, imagining fondly what a Biden presidency would look like.
“Every time that that Vice President Biden gets out there … every time he has a chance to talk, I’m reminded though he is a good and decent man, and as a leader, he would not be putting himself first,” she gushed.
Warren added, “He would be putting first the interests of the American people. He would understand at a human level of what this [COVID-19] pandemic means to Americans, and I would have no doubt that he would both be doing everything he could to have a strong response, and that he would run a competent government with smart people to help get that done.”
The failed 2020 Democratic candidate did not leave it at just that. She continued to pour it on pretty thick, leaving one with the distinct impression that she is gunning either to be Biden’s running mate or at least a member of his Cabinet.
“It’s a crisis like this that reminds us how much we need leadership,” Warren told her interviewers. “I think that the vice president, when he talks, reminds us of good and decent leadership. And, of course, he reminds us that President Obama was here just three and a half years ago, and he saw us through a crisis starting back in 2009 with steady, thoughtful, smart leadership, and that’s what I think we can expect from Vice President Biden.”
Remember: Warren has yet to officially endorse a candidate for the 2020 Democratic primary, which is still a race between Biden and Sanders (though the Vermont senator has basically no chance of winning).
But after her appearance this weekend on SiriusXM, there can be no doubt about which 2020 Democratic primary candidate Warren is going to support for the nomination. The Massachusetts senator may claim to be a crusader for uber-liberal causes and policies, but she is, and always will be, a politician first.
