David Bossie to lead Trump campaign legal fight over vote count

President Trump’s reelection campaign has tapped David Bossie to lead the legal battle over the election vote count in several states, signaling the potential for a protracted fight.

The combative Bossie, already a senior adviser to the campaign, will take on a position overseeing the slate of lawsuits filed by the campaign since Election Day, the New York Times reported.

A close Trump ally, Bossie leads the conservative advocacy group Citizens United and was the president’s deputy campaign manager in 2016.

The Trump campaign has dispatched allies and campaign officials to election sites across the country as part of an aggressive strategy to ensure “all legally cast ballots” are counted.

In a statement Friday, Trump redoubled his commitment to this legal challenge, a fight he said was about “the integrity of our entire election process.”

He said that “all legal ballots must be counted and all illegal ballots should not be counted” and charged that “this basic principle” had met Democratic Party obstruction throughout.

“We will pursue this process through every aspect of the law to guarantee that the American people have confidence in our government,” Trump said. “I will never give up fighting for you and our nation.”

The race has moved to favor Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the days following the election, according to state tabulations.
