Dear Oscars: Remember Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance

When will Hollywood liberals learn that most of America doesn’t want to hear about politics from you?

Well, to be fair, one performer proved she learned. Lady Gaga showed she knew that, and we hope she teaches the grace she expressed during the Super Bowl 51 Halftime Show to the Hollywood elites gathering tonight for the 89th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre.

Some events are so intertwined into the American fabric that they should be bigger than some overpaid actor/director/producer’s under-informed thoughts on politics. The Super Bowl is one of them, and the Oscars are certainly another. Viewers tune in to see the outfits, hear about stars’ personal stories, and to celebrate the best films and performances of the year.

If they wanted to hear from the Democrats, they would have tuned into the DNC meeting on Saturday. Check the ratings for that one…

It’s not only less annoying for Hollywood to not push politics during the Oscars, but it is also good business. Look at Lady Gaga’s sales after the Super Bowl: they went up 1,000 percent, according to billboard.

Not only did Gaga rock it, but she also surprised us. We were one of many voices predicting Gaga would bring politics into the Super Bowl Halftime Show. When she didn’t, we were pleasantly surprised, which added even more emotion to the appreciation of her work.

That’s the chance the Oscar winners have tonight. Surprise us.

Many of the films being featured tonight never had particularly high ticket sales. Most of them you might not have even heard of before tonight.

So, the reward and opportunity are there. All the winners have to do is take it.
