Woman claims Herschel Walker pushed her to get second abortion: Report

Georgia Republican Senate contender Herschel Walker reportedly encouraged a woman to have a second abortion while they were dating more than a decade ago.

The relationship between the two ultimately ended after she refused the second abortion, the woman told the New York Times in a report published Friday.

“As a father, he’s done nothing. He does exactly what the courts say, and that’s it,” she said. “He has to be held responsible, just like the rest of us. And if you’re going to run for office, you need to own your life,” the woman told the outlet.

Walker’s campaign was rocked by a bombshell report earlier in the week in which the woman, who has not been publicly identified, came forward to claim Walker encouraged and paid for her to have an abortion in 2009. He has adamantly denied the allegation, calling it a “flat-out” lie. The initial report cited Walker’s signature on a “get-well” card and receipts.

In a follow-up report from the Daily Beast, the woman said she was the mother of one of his children. Neither the New York Times nor the Daily Beast reports identified the woman. After the first abortion, the woman says she continued her relationship with Walker and became pregnant about two years later.

Both Walker and the woman terminated their relationship on Sept. 16, 2011, the news outlet reported. The woman told the New York Times that Walker was barely involved in raising the now-10-year-old child. She showed the outlet the same receipts and “get well” card shared with the Daily Beast.

Shortly after the two ended their relationship, Walker claimed in a December 2011 Playboy magazine interview that Julie Blanchard was his fiance. She is now his wife.

Walker, a former football player, is running to unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D). He has fashioned himself an anti-abortion candidate during the race.

“The fact that I had a choice — now he’s in the public trying to say he wants to put a ban on abortion completely,” the woman, who was described as a Democrat, told the New York Times, “It appalled me.”

Warnock has weathered allegations from his ex-wife that he ran over her foot with a vehicle during a domestic dispute. He and Walker have been locked in a competitive race that could determine the balance of power in the Senate.

As a firestorm continues to mount, Walker reportedly cut ties with his political director, Taylor Crowe, amid suspicions he was leaking material to the media. His son, Christian, whom the candidate had with his first wife, Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, has also levied hefty criticism against him, bashing his personal conduct over the years.

“I know this is untrue. I know it’s untrue. … I know nothing about any woman having an abortion. And they can keep coming at me like that, and they’re doing it because they want to distract people,” Walker told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday abortion the abortion allegation.

A number of Republicans, including former President Donald Trump and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), have rallied around Walker this week as the abortion allegations have come forth.
