Trump raises money off decision to skip White House Correspondents’ Dinner: ‘I chose YOU over the fake news’

President Trump’s re-election committee sent out an email to supporters in an attempt to fundraise off his decision not to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner for the second year.

The email opens with Trump saying his White House staff asked him if he wanted to attend the dinner, to which he replied, “Why would I want to be stuck in a room with a bunch of fake news liberals who hate me?”

The email continues to say Trump will be holding a rally in Michigan “to spend the evening with my favorite deplorables who love our movement and love America!”

It then asks supporters to make a donation to the campaign in exchange for a chance to win two VIP tickets to the rally.

It promises the winner a photo with Trump “so you can always remember the night I chose YOU over the fake news.”

Trump famously attended the dinner in 2011, but since elected, he has declined to attend the event both years of his presidency.

The annual dinner, attended largely by journalists and elite-level politicians, as well as some current White House staff, will take place Saturday in Washington.
