LONDON (AP) — Lining up the two top-ranked fencers in the discipline, China is keen to earn its first Olympic medal in women’s individual epee on Monday.
Sun Yujie, who at age 19 is already ranked No. 1 by the International Fencing Federation, and world champion Li Na are China’s main medal trumps at the ExCeL venue.
However, 2008 Olympic silver medalist Ana Branza of Romania does not fear the competition from her higher-ranked opponents.
Branza says “it’s hard to get two consecutive Olympic podiums … but I am not afraid of anybody.”
