Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson joked Wednesday the hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico could last up to a century.
The Hill’s Editor-in-Chief Bob Cusack asked Carson during a Wednesday event to estimate how many years it will take for his department to rebuild the devastated U.S. territory.
“We will be with Puerto Rico until the conclusion … somewhere between one and 100 years,” Carson said, jokingly.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello said earlier this month he expects 95 percent of the island to regain power by the end of the year.
Carson also advocated for implementing prison rehabilitation programs that will integrate inmates into the workforce.
“You’ve got a captive audience, no pun intended,” Carson joked about educating prisoners.
