Former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina will campaign for Republican Senate candidate Todd Young in Indiana on Wednesday.
Fiorina is the latest Republican headliner to stump with Young, which included Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst last week. Former President George W. Bush and House Speaker Paul Ryan have held fundraisers with Young, and Arizona Sen. John McCain campaigned with Young earlier this month.
The Indiana Senate race to replace retiring GOP Sen. Dan Coats is hotly contested and features former Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh. Whether Democrats succeed at flipping Indiana in next month’s election could have a determinative impact on the balance of power in the Senate.
When Bayh and Young shared a debate stage earlier this month, they made hardly any mention of the presidential race. Bayh distanced himself from Clinton and Young avoided any mention of the GOP nominee.
But Fiorina’s support for Young at this stage of the race could loom large for the direction of the GOP after the election regardless of the outcome. If Fiorina decides to make a play to serve as chair of the Republican National Committee, Hoosiers’ support, or lack thereof, could factor into her chances of success.
