Trump: Cruz has set a record, but it’s not a good one

Donald Trump railed over Sen. Ted Cruz’s announcement of Carly Fiorina as his running mate during a rally in Indianapolis, Ind., Wednesday night.

“[Cruz] has set a record though. He’s the first presidential candidate in the history of this country who’s mathematically eliminated from being president who chose a vice presidential candidate,” Trump told the thousands in attendance.

The New York businessman snagged wins in every one of the five primary races Tuesday night, inching closer to the 1,237 delegate threshold. Trump said Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich are “straggling” behind him despite announcing Sunday they would align in a move to block Trump from securing the nomination before the July convention.

“When they did this little marriage of the two of them, boy did that backfire,” Trump said. “So they were embarrassed, they’re getting terrible press. It has been catastrophic.”

Trump cited Knight’s line that if he wins Indiana next week, the election is locked down because Kasich or Cruz would have to challenge him on a second ballot in Cleveland, Ohio.

In order to avoid a brokered convention, Trump said he will focus a significant amount of attention in Indiana over the next week, telling attendees “you are gonna get so tired of me” over the next six days.

Indiana’s primary has 57 delegates up for grabs. Trump currently has 987 delegates and has promised to hit the 1,237, but is shooting for 1,400.
