New rules coming down the pipe from the Left: It’s OK for Democrats to be rich, but if Republicans are rich they are terrible people whose wealth should be controlled by the government. Oh! And, rich Republicans are the problem with America.
At least those are the implications from the hubbub created by the Center for American Progress (CAP) (via its subsidiary blog Think Progress) around a video of Gov. Mitt Romney speaking to a group of wealthy donors about how wonderful it is to be wealthy.
Here are the rules according to President Obama and his allies on the Left:
The president is allowed to do 40k-a-plate fundraisers but when presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney raises money for his presidential campaign, he’s supposedly out of touch with the average American.
President Obama hangs out with millionaire Hollywood movie stars and liberal louse Bill Maher, who donated $1 million dollars to Obama’s campaign (he isn’t really considered a “Hollywood Star” by anyone, right?). Mitt Romney hangs out successful business people, like the owner of Papa John’s Pizza, who creates thousands of jobs for Americans.
Obviously Republicans are out of touch with the average American — they’re just a bunch of rich old white guys.
No word yet from the Left about the evils of John Kerry’s inherited millions. Or the Kennedys. Or on the 36 Senate Democrats with a net worth of over $1 million dollars (compared with 30 Republicans). Or on the fact that seven of the top 10 wealthiest members of Congress are Democrats.
No, they can’t talk about that.
You also won’t hear liberal groups like the Center for American progress reminding voters that Mitt Romney donated 15 percent of his income to charity, while President Obama only donated between 1 percent and 5 percent.
Curses on the cold-hearted rich (Republicans)!
I would like to ask those at the Center for American Progress how they sleep at night knowing their incomes and the $36.5 million dollars in contributions and grants CAP received in 2010 were given to them by the dastardly wealthy?
In fact, Mr. Podesta, by your own standards you (and your employees at the Center for American Progress) are part of the problem with your $274,103 compensation (circa 2010).
Sarah Rosen Wartell: $264,106
Neera Tanden: $173,887.
Lawrence Korb: $281,385.
David Halperin: $205,199.
Ralph Lilly: $190,466.
Andrew Sherry: $198,497.
And John Prendergast: $171,010.
You see, Republicans are capable of making lists of rich people, too.
Now, you won’t hear anyone on the right deriding the creativity of those at the Center for American Progress for making such enormous incomes (at a non-profit of all places) based on deception and hypocrisy. It’s quite clever of them. “The wealthy are the problem with this country! Pay me $200k+ and I’ll advance that message!”
The question is: How do they dream their progressive little dreams at night while something as odious as a six figure income hangs over their head?
