Suspect in deadly Paris crash was suicidal, not motivated by terrorism, police say

French officials said Monday that the driver who slammed his car into a pizza restaurant near Paris, killing a 13-year-old girl and injuring a dozen others, may have been suicidal, and that his actions may not be linked to terrorism.

The Associated Press reported the attacker was driving a BMW that he aimed at patrons of Pizzeria Cesena in the small town of Sept-Sorts, about 36 miles east of Paris.

Authorities were still investigating the incident, but the incident comes after an Algerian man drove his car into a group of French soldiers last week.

Last year, a truck attack in the French city of Nice killed 86 people. In several other European countries over recent years, cars have been increasingly used as weapons, a tactic encouraged by the Islamic State terrorist group.
