General Motors CEO Mary Barra stepped in front of a House congressional committee Wednesday to offer a status report on the company’s handling of a recall that is responsible for at least 13 deaths. GM’s Chevy Cobalt had a faulty ignition switch that, while driving, could switch into the accessory position, making the airbags unable to deploy in the event of a wreck. It came to light earlier this year that General Motors knew of this issue for years before issuing a massive recall.
Barra appeared before a House committee earlier this spring to answer questions, and recently, the company released an internal report that shows a widespread cultural problem with fear of delivering bad news.
