The Alabama man accused of owning an “attack squirrel” that dined on methamphetamine was arrested Thursday after a weeklong saga that included the suspect repossessing his pet squirrel and taunting police on social media.
Mickey Paulk, 35, has been on the run from police who raided a home guarded by Paulk’s pet squirrel, which they described as being on meth and trained to attack. Police did not find Paulk, who had warrants for drug and weapons charges, but they did find and release the squirrel into a wooded area near the house.
Paulk returned to the scene after police left and got his squirrel back. He posted a video to Facebook that same day, lounging in a darkened room and stroking the small creature. Paulk said the squirrel was drug-free and not a trained attack animal.
“He’s just a baby. He’s 10 1/2 months old,” Paulk said. “He is an asshole. He’s a mean motherf—er, no doubt. But he’s not a trained attack squirrel, and he’s not on meth, I’m pretty sure. Better not find out he’s on meth, anyway. I don’t think he likes that shit.”
While on the run from police, Paulk told the Washington Examiner that his squirrel was called Deez Nuts, and although “not all that trained,” the animal “does use a litter box.”
Paulk was arrested Thursday night after a police chase where he rammed an investigator’s vehicle. He was wanted on multiple felony charges unrelated to his young squirrel. The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office tweeted out a photo of handcuffed Paulk lying in the grass with a flashlight shining at his face.

He was booked on the additional charges of attempting to elude, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, and, after it was discovered he had a handgun tucked into his waistband, felon in possession of a pistol.
Paulk is being held in jail. As for Deez Nuts, authorities say they have released the squirrel once more.
