White House: Second Trump-Kim meeting already in the works

President Trump is already working to coordinate a second meeting with Kim Jong Un to continue nuclear negotiations, the White House said Monday, describing the North Korean leader’s latest letter to the president as “very warm.”

A letter from Kim was delivered to the president over the weekend, as North Korea prepared to celebrate its annual military parade absent any displays of ICBMs or other weapons, as the regime has done in the past.

“The president has received the letter from Kim Jong Un and it was very warm [and] very positive,” press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters, adding that Trump would not release the letter in its entirety without Kim’s permission.

“The primary purpose of the letter was to request and look to schedule another meeting with the president, which we are open to and are already in the process of coordinating,” Sanders said.

Sanders said the administration considered Kim’s actions during the weekend parade in Pyongyang to be “a sign of good faith” that strengthened what he said in his letter to Trump.

“It was one of the first times that they have had parades similar where they weren’t highlighting their nuclear arsenal. We consider that a sign of good faith,” she said, claiming North Korea has demonstrated “a continued commitment to denuclearization.”

The date and location of a second meeting between Kim and Trump has yet to be determined, but Sanders did not rule out a visit to Washington by the authoritarian leader when asked about the possibility.

“We’ll let you know when we have further details,” she said.
