Carl Bernstein: Rudy Giuliani trying to ‘throw bombs’ into Mueller investigation

Carl Bernstein, the veteran Washington Post journalist who reported on the Watergate scandal, argued Rudy Giuliani was trying to “throw bombs” into special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

“Rudy Giuliani is capable of being so reckless as we have seen throughout the campaign and as we are seeing now, that it is very difficult to parse what he is doing and saying, except that he is trying to throw bombs into the Mueller investigation,” Bernstein told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Friday.

In an interview on Wednesday, Giuliani, who recently joined Trump’s legal team, said that Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey because Comey would not “say that [Trump] wasn’t a target of the investigation” on Russian meddling.

Giuliani attempted to distance himself from those comments on Friday, releasing a statement that argued removing Comey was “clearly within his Article II power.”

“It is undisputed that the President’s dismissal of former Director Comey — an inferior executive officer — was clearly within his Article II power,” Giuliani said. “Recent revelations about former Director Comey further confirm the wisdom of the President’s decision, which was plainly in the best interests of our nation.”

Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and if the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.

Trump has claimed that no collusion occurred and has repeatedly called Mueller’s probe a “witch hunt.”
