After a local student went missing in March 2002, police called the disappearance suspicious and probed whether a onetime boyfriend was involved.
But more than eight years later, Ganignunt Aiemsakul is still considered missing and no one has been arrested in connection with the case.
Authorities thought foul play could be involved, but never found evidence that a crime occurred.
Aiemsakul, who also used the first name Felicia, was last seen leaving the boyfriend’s home on the 8200 block of Goodhurst Drive in Gaithersburg at about 2 a.m. after the two had a fight.
She was 19 at the time, and a student at the Rockville campus of Montgomery Community College, police said.
What made authorities suspicious, police said in the weeks following Aiemsakul’s disappearance, was that there was no activity reported on credit cards or cell phones.
Aiemsakul’s parents told authorities that they believed her ex-boyfriend was connected to her disappearance. Police said he apparently became obsessive and wouldn’t leave her alone.
Montgomery County police searched in and around his home and in wooded areas nearby after Aiemsakul went missing.
But no evidence turned up.
To date, no one has been arrested or indicted in the case, said Preston Findlay, a lawyer with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Aiemsakul would now be 27 years old. At the time of her disappearance, she was about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 125 pounds. She is Asian, with black hair and brown eyes.
Aiemsakul has a tattoo of a scorpion on her waist and another tattoo on her right lower back.
