Michael Wolff, author of the sensational Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House book, abruptly ended an interview with Australia’s “Today” show after the anchor asked him about a rumor Wolff spread that President Trump was having an extramarital affair.
During the interview on Monday, anchor Ben Fordham attempted to ask Wolff why he has in recent days backtracked on the allegation.
“You said you were absolutely sure that the president was having an affair and now you say that he’s not,” Fordham said.
“Hello?” replied Wolff, indicating he couldn’t hear anything in his audio earpiece. “I’m not getting anything.”
“Mr. Wolff was hearing me before but he’s not hearing me anymore so it looks like the interview may be over,” said Fordham as Wolff removed the ear piece and got up from his seat to end the interview.
The incident came after Wolff had answered several questions from Fordham without any apparent technical problems.
“Today’s” Twitter account posted a message afterward that said, “Footage from our London studio would suggest that there were no audio problems and Wolff had no problem hearing @BenFordham’s question!”

Wolff had said in January that he was sure Trump was having an affair and suggested in his book that it was with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. Both the White House and Haley have publicly denied the rumor.
But in an interview last week on a Dutch TV show, Wolff said, “I do not know if the president is having an affair” but he said he believed it was likely that he was.
