Redskins punt returner/receiver Brandon Banks was released from the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington after a tube in his chest was removed. Banks had been hospitalized since Saturday morning after getting stabbed in his upper abdomen outside of a D.C. nightclub.
Banks’ lungs stayed inflated after the tube was removed allowing him to leave. Banks’ agent, James Gould, said Banks would resume normal activity within three to four weeks.
“He dodged a bullet,” Gould said. “He’s really happy. I was hoping it would be sooner, but at the end of the day he’s fully recovered and that’s all that really mattered.”
According to the police report, Banks and a friend, Christopher Nixon, were involved in a fight with 24-year-old Jason Shorter. He is alleged to have started the fight. There have been various reports suggesting Banks might have instigated th the matter, but Gould said he would not comment on what amounted to be rumors.
“The police are doing a thorough investigation,” Gould said. “Brandon is the victim. All the rumors I don’t have time for. If it turns out something comes to light then we’ll deal with it. Today is a good day; Brandon is out.”
Nixon, described as Banks’ best friend, remains hospitalized.
