Sassy-mouthed comedian Sarah Silverman is “shocked and offended,” which might be hard to imagine.
Silverman, who has been a vegetarian since she was 10, recently wrote a letter to Rep. George Miller, D-Calif. She wanted to share her feelings with him about the current state of school lunches, and encouraged Congress to pass the Healthy School Meals Act.
“Some of the foods we’re feeding kids in schools are repulsive — and that unhealthy food is feeding the childhood obesity epidemic,” Silverman states in her letter.
She wrote that encouraging children to develop healthy eating habits early in life will lower their risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes down the road.
“And that would mean lower health care costs. See?” Silverman adds, “Only good comes from this.”
Other notable supporters of the act include Scarlett Johansson, Woody Harrelson, Tavis Smiley, Jesse McCartney, Sean Penn and Ellen DeGeneres.
