A handful of undocumented immigrants who were fired from President Trump’s various luxury golf courses and hotels plan to shame him outside the Orlando venue where he plans to kick off his 2020 reelection campaign.
Five Hispanic immigrants and former employees of the Trump Organization plan to travel to Orlando and hold a press conference outside the Amway Center, according to the New York Daily News.
The group will warn against Trump’s “cruelty and hypocrisy,” an attorney said.
“No one knows better than Trump himself that immigrants are hardworking individuals who support a multitude of industries across the country, including his restaurants, golf courses, wineries and hotels,” the attorney said. “And no one knows better than the undocumented workers who worked for Trump, how urgent it is for Congress to pass humane and sensible immigration laws so that immigrants can continue contributing to their communities and to our nation, just like they did for Trump and his family.”
The five undocumented workers were several of dozens of employees that multiple media outlets reported had been employed to work on Trump properties despite not having legal working papers.
The organization later fired more than a dozen undocumented workers after the stories broke.
“The Trump Organization has extensive policies and procedures in place to ensure compliance with all wage and hour laws,” told the Washington Post in a statement earlier this year. “This story is total nonsense and nothing more than unsubstantiated allegations from illegal immigrants who unlawfully submitted fake identification in an effort to obtain employment.”
Trump picked the Amway Center in Orlando for a rally and campaign kickoff event Tuesday evening. Trump won Florida by just two points in 2016.
