DHS will free illegal immigrant families from detention centers

The Department of Homeland Security has surrendered to the demands of the amnesty activists. Secretary Jeh Johnson made the announcement Wednesday that DHS will begin releasing more illegal immigrant families from detention centers.

Johnson said that the conditions were too harsh for families. These harsh conditions included flat-screen televisions in every suite, classrooms, ball fields, and around-the-clock access to food and drinks, reported the Washington Times.

He hopes that the illegal immigrant families will post bond, thereby releasing them into the U.S., and then show up in court for their deportation hearings.

This logic defies the fact that 94 percent of illegal immigrants do not show up for their court date, according to Breitbart.

His position changed completely from just one year ago when he stated that detaining families were a key step the fighting the surge of illegal immigrants from Central America. Johnson claimed at that time that those who stayed in custody would likely get deported.

Johnson used the detention centers as a deterrent to would-be illegal immigrants. He said they would think twice about making the trip themselves if they knew they’d be apprehended and deported.

The move to release detainees has received praised by illegal immigrant advocates and scorn from congressional Republicans.

Amnesty advocates claimed this victory was a “first step.” They ultimately hope detention centers will close permanently, allowing illegal immigrants to freely move into the United States.

Rep. Robert Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, condemned the action, claiming it will make illegal immigration worse.

“By refusing to detain unlawful immigrants until their claims are proven legitimate, the Obama administration is practically guaranteeing that they will disappear into our communities and never be removed from the United States,” said Goodlatte.
