CIA Director Mike Pompeo mocked White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Thursday for suggesting microwaves can be used for surveillance.
During his first remarks since being sworn in to lead the agency, Pompeo praised his staff for its “talent” and selfless decision to dedicate their lives in “service to their country.”
“They quietly go about their work and try not to get too worked up over the headlines, including the fanciful notion that they spy on their fellow citizens via microwave ovens,” Pompeo said at the Center for Strategic and Internation Studies.
Conway received criticism last month when during a visit to her New Jersey home she told the local newspaper, the Bergen Record, that spying could be done through “microwaves that turn into cameras.”
Her comments were in reference to President Trump’s allegations that former President Barack Obama’s administration had wiretapped Trump Tower to spy on his campaign.
