Biden willing to give his donors ambassadorships

Joe Biden said he plans to pick the “best people” for ambassadorships regardless of whether they donate to his campaign.

“I’m going to appoint the best people possible,” the former vice president said Friday, according to the Associated Press. “Nobody, in fact, will be appointed by me based on anything they contributed.”

But Biden, 77, did leave the door open to those who contributed to his campaign, saying, “You have some of the people out there … that are fully qualified to head up everything from being the ambassador to NATO to be ambassador to France … who may or may not have contributed.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has condemned the practice of giving ambassadorships and government positions to donors. The Massachusetts Democrat has also sworn off high-dollar donors for her campaign.

Biden responded to Warren, pointing out that rivals like her were still funded by sizable donations. Warren built up much of her more than $10 million war chest before her 2020 run based on high-dollar donors.
